Some time ago there was a man who always smiled no matter what happened, he was always there for those he considered his friends. Time, money, or just an ear he had it all for them. Until one day while he was out for a walk in the woods behind his home when a dirt bike raced by knocking him from the steep path.

He landed in a ravine, a fallen branch impaling him with a fatal wound. He took comfort in knowing that at least he would not die there, all his friends knew where he walked and were sure to come looking for him soon. For three days he waited, no one came, no search party, not even another hiker.

Finally at the end of the third day, as he felt the last of his life slipping away he cursed his friends. He cursed himself and he cursed his life spent helping others. As his soul ripped free those curses twisted it, he sought out those whom had not come for him.

When he found one of his so called friends he consumed them, not for revenge, not really. He felt he had been cheated from his life and wanted it back. He would consume their memories, at first taking years to savor them, reliving his victim’s life.

But over time even that was not enough, he discovered he could completely control a person after he had taken their memories, because after all we are only the sum of our experiences. His victims developed a mask of rotten and dried skin. Though in his haste and greed he eventually became trapped within the mask. Only able to take a new victim when someone put the mask on and when he used their body to kill others.

The mask has made its way to the Grim Grove several times, though as of yet we have not found a way to contain it for more than a few decades. A recent check of our vaulted revealed it is once again missing. Should it be seen do not put it on. Lock it away, chain it and through it in the ocean. Burry it in the fresh concrete of a construction site and pray that it remains there until long after you have passed. Because within the mask he watches, he remembers, and those whom see him but do not help will almost assuredly become his victim.
