[Ray] hey Jim- That model of a wimhurst generator is a work in progress. The first year it didn't spin at all. I later added a fan motor so at least one of the discs would spin. Ideally one should spin clock wise and the other counter clockwise. One of thiese days I'll have to see if I can build a real one- probably the only true way to get the proper effect.
